Lanzarote is part of the Canary Islands, it isn't the most well-known of the archipelago but that only means that its attractions are still more on the traditional side of things. The best way of seeing the small island is with the help of our Lanzarote car hire services.
Lanzarote is a volcanic island, one of its main attractions being the Timanfaya National Park which features a volcanic landscape that hasn't changed very much since the last major eruption took place in the 1730's which covered about a quarter of the island's surface. It's truly a unique place to see and a must-see one because of that. The park itself has two main attractions, the Montanas del Fuego and the Visitors' Centre.
The Jameos del Agua can be found in the north of the island, this is a natural volcanic formation which is created when the ceiling of an underground lava tunnel collapses, thus exposing the tunnel to the sky. One such 'jameo' was turned into a bar, restaurant, swimming pool and concert hall back in 1966.
Nearby, there's the Cueva de los Verdes or Green's Cave, it refers to a succession of caverns and tunnels that were formed by an underground river of lava, the melted rock and mineral formations creating an interesting atmosphere.
The Mirador del Rio is one of the lookout spots which you can find at the northern tip of the island, it offers a wonderful panoramic view of the small islands that you can see to the north of Lanzarote. There's also a comfortable bar and lunge here.
While you may not think it, the island does feature some museums, and some interesting ones at that, such as the Whales and Dolphins Museum which is a very informative place great for a family trip. Dolphins and whales are ever-present in the surrounding waters, so this museum is very appropriate.
This is just a basic idea of what the island is like, with our Lanzarote car rental services you can see as much of the place as possible.
